Signing Day-our first student, Michael Griffith
Michael was our first apprentice to sign to our program on January 14, 2019. His story is similar to so many others, but he took a step in the right direction to improve his life and the life of his family. Michael had a set back, but when that situation was concluded he contacted MARS Contractors, Inc. while working at an on call job ready type position. Unfortunately, MARS Contractors, Inc was a union contractor and was not able to hire him at that time. MARS Contractors, Inc and many other businesses were being plagued with issues and disconnects between union wages, prevailing David Bacon Wage, Section 3, local preference ordinance, and the Labor Department higher skill worker pay requirements. They knew they needed to help him and so many more people in his situation achieve their dreams. This is how a Florida registered Apprentice Program was born.
Now at age 44, Michael is in his second year of our Plumber Apprentice program and makes $20.84 per hour. He now has a home, car, and is ready to begin his next phase in life. He works diligently toward his goal of becoming a Journeyman Plumber and making $30.28 per hour.
